Marion Barry, famously described by comedian Chris Rock as the man who, “smoked crack, got his job back,” has once again won the Ward 8 councilman position.  He celebrated this victory in a fashion that African Desis might find eerily similar to a certain Ugandan madman, saying:

We’ve got to do something about these Asians coming in, opening up businesses — those dirty shops,”

“They ought to go. I’ll just say that right now, you know. But we need African-American businesspeople to be able to take their places, too.” 

It’s exceedingly unlikely that Obama will say that Barry looks like he could be his grandfather, considering how politically toxic that would be, but Barry’s continued electoral success speaks volumes of the environment which produces people who vote for a man like this over and over and…
