Sanjeev Miglani has an article about India-Pakistan trade..
My own (easily misunderstood) view remains this: India can help Pakistan’s transition from Pakistaniat to an ugly but non-warlike normalcy by being fair and reasonably open in matters of trade, travel, cultural exchange and water disputes. This raises hackles in both countries (Pakistanis feel insulted by that sentence about Pakistaniat, Indians feel insulted by the insinuation that there vegetarian peace-loving nation could ever be unfair in these matters) but that doesnt really bother me.
This is exactly the opposite of the idea of “solving Kashmir” or “solving Siachen” in order to make peace. Those wont be solved, they will be bypassed.
Of course it could all go wrong. If you look at the comments from Paknationalists and Internet Hindus you would certainly think so. And so maybe it will go wrong. But dont underestimate the self interest of corrupt ruling elites.
