Raksha Bandhan: Of brothers and sisters
Hinduism and India are very colorful in contrast to Pakistan to Islam where poor Veena Malik has had to engage in self-censorship.
A YouTube user by the name Hamza Imran uploaded a video of his reaction to Veena’s Ramazan promo. Cursing heavily, he appeals to viewers:
“Can you imagine Veena Malik, who not so long ago stripped half naked with an ISI tattoo on her? She hasn’t got any right to be entering Pakistan, let alone being on a TV show that has such religion significance,” he says, holding his head, clearly appalled. He also adds that he has uploaded his video to “spread the message” to the show’s producers for its cancellation. “I’m not just going to be Facebooking or liking things online because that’s not going to make a difference. I want people to email Hero TV and send them hate messages and ask them to stop this. She’s a disgrace of a person. How dare she?”
An alternative program this Ramazan should be “Muzzers gone wild” starring of course Angry Muslim Guy.

One can only of course dream of the day when Muzzers the world over will happily chant:

For a fairly ineffectual civilisation the Islamic world sure occupies a disproportionate influence on American foreign policy; I’ve just read that the American Embassy in Baghdad (the Mother of All Embassies) cost around $750mn. I need to send a copy the “Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire” to Mitt Romney since such unnecessary over-extension (the US only imports 7% of its oil from Arab countries) will ensure that this is “Asian Century” rather than an American one; I for one would prefer to avoid Oriental despotism where necessary (thankfully in this regard Desis are too inefficient to be truly despotic but in a certain light are rather comedic as exemplified by our Olympic successes or rather lack thereof).

as a friend on FB said, “Raksha Bandhan is the surest sign of being friendzoned.”
I once refused to wear a rakhi offered by a girl “friend”.
Ended up dating her for almost 2 years.
Refuse the friend zone!
Yes I though rakhi is only for families?
Generally within families, but there are also people who feel they have a sort of a brotherly/sisterly relationship, that person is not an actual brother or sister but you consider that person as a brother who will help/protect you or a sister who cares for you. That’s how Anna Hazare got so many Rakhi’s. Not to mention the South asian construct of calling strangers or people you know only faintly or don’t know their name as brother, sister, father, uncle, aunt to sort of establishing a relationship in the conversation.

I find that endearing…obviously comes with a lot of negatives, but it seems very strongly Desi to me.
