Hafiz Saeed prays for a lost soul
LeT founder Hafiz Mohammad Saeed led a gathering of thousands in offering funeral prayers for Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist involved in the Mumbai attacks who was hanged earlier this week, a report said on Saturday. Saeed, the mastermind of the 2008 assault on Mumbai, offered ‘ghayabana namaz-e-janaza’ (funeral prayers in absentia) for Kasab after the training session of Jamaat-ud-Dawah near Lahore. The event was attended by thousands of people, the Urdu newspaper Daily Express reported.
Kasab was just a canon fodder, if Hafiz Saeed was convinced of the egalitarian nature of islam (as vouchsafed by some BP not-atheists) he would have led from the front. But a million “kasai-s” will be butchered before that will happen.
Farzana Versey from Amchi Mumbai in Counterpunch:
He could not be just another dead man, so his last words, “Allah kasam maaf karna aisi galati dobara nahi hogi” (I swear on god, forgive me, this mistake will not be committed again) are being played out in a loop. References to his penance have taken precedence. Now that the crime has been punished, it is time to look at the hereafter. Will he go to heaven and get those 72 virgins as promised to shaheeds? No one seems to realise that the crucial aspect of any fidayeen operation is to aspire to martyrdom, Kasab showed no signs of it. He was not overtly religious or patriotic. It makes holes in the quilted mindset.
Also the action of the Pak Foreign office is significant (as noted by Farzana).
When the Indian office sent a letter to the Pakistan government, it was not accepted. External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said that since it was an “inevitable event” a fax message was sent to the Pakistan Foreign Office. “There is no other way of communicating (the event). Though the message was not accepted we fulfilled our obligations.”
If neocons are bad (and rabid) because they are preaching war, then only a more immoral group would be those who does not accept dead bodies of their own side (so that families can at least get some closure). But why are we surprised, it happened in Kargil as well.
What is also not surprising is the high-crimes level anti-terrorist measures (false) that has been promised (illusory) on the Indian side. When the bombs go off (or the guns) it is every man for himself.
No these are not perversions merely bad drama.
