It is being reported that the US has declared the Haqqani network as a terrorist group.
The Jihadi-Paknationalist faction of the Pakistani state has put out that it is unhappy with this development http://tribune.com.pk/story/433029/blacklisting-haqqanis-not-good-pakistani-official/
The pragmatic faction has indicated its OK.
The One Hundred Onions, One Hundred Slaps strategy continues to operate. No end in sight. http://www.3quarksdaily.com/3quarksdaily/2011/06/pakistan-end-of-the-affair-by-omar-ali.html
Meanwhile, today is the anniversary of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s shameful orchestration of a National Assembly resolution that declared Ahmedis as non-Muslims. To celebrate this occasion, the newspaper “The News” (part of the Jang group, Pakistan’s largest media group) has published a piece of anti-Ahmedi propaganda.
Excerpt: “September 7, 1974, is a memorable and historic day for the Islamic Republic of Pakistan as, on this day, the National Assembly, through a constitutional amendment, unanimously declared all the followers of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani as non-Muslim minority. Later in 1984, through an ordinance Qadianis were prohibited from using Islamic terms, and a ban was imposed on all their un-Islamic activities…”
Notice that they cannot use Islamic terms and their un-islamic activities are banned. Kafka could not have said it better.
Persecution of Ahmedis proceeds apace. For background see http://www.3quarksdaily.com/3quarksdaily/2012/01/pakistan-and-the-ahmedis-headed-for-disaster-or-just-more-of-the-same-by-omar-ali.html
To get a flavor of how this persecution works on the ground, check out this website. http://khatm-e-nubuwwat.com/ . The speaker reports that 14 years ago his men surveyed all of Manshera district (notorious for a recent shia massacre, earlier a major site of army-sponsored Jihadi training camps..the two facts bearing some relation) and found that there were 783 Qadiyanis in the district. In the last 14 years they have been systematically “worked on”, some have converted, some left, some died and only 9 are left in the entire district. Inshallah we will rid the district of them soon. He also reports that in X village there are no more qadiyanis left. The report goes on and on; in every district Qadianis are systematically identified by this organization and then “worked on” to get them to revert to Islam or leave or die. Various atrocities along the way are all described …an entire village was destroyed as Qadiyanis fought each other…X and Y qadiyani was killed coming out of the mosque by other qadiyanis… and so on. Until this fitna (originally refining of metal, generally used as chaos or more specifically, conflict within Islam) meets its logical end.
The Khatme naboowat crowd held their convention and guess who was there? Yes, the brother and father of Mumtaz Qadri, the hero who shot the governor of Punjab for daring to question a blasphemy arrest. And they want the “social activities” of the Ahmedis closely monitored: http://tribune.com.pk/story/434302/khatme-nabuwat-conference-calls-for-restrictions-on-ahmadi-community/
Btw, there is a whole subculture of stories about orgies in Ahmedi meetings (just like there are rumors of orgies in Shia religious meetings). I wonder if there is any research or psychobabble about the common elements in these orgy-stories about hated minorities? I have not looked into it, but i would guess there were similar stories about Jews in Europe at one time…
The future’s so bright, gotta wear shades.
But I do believe that after hardcore Islamism and Paknationalism crash and burn (or whimper and die, it could go either way) things will gradually get better.
Meanwhile, at least this bastard is in prison for now
btw, for those unclear about why the police is so ineffective against sectarian terrorists in Pakistan http://tribune.com.pk/story/432942/targeted-sp-investigation-gunned-down-in-quetta/
With more powerful agencies frequently shielding their “strategic assets” and visible agencies subject to targeted reprisals, the results are not unexpected.
The next item doesnt fit here or anywhere else, but here will have to do: A prayer leader in a small mosque near Peshawar was sodomized by some young men from the neighborhood. Apparently they were avenging his having sodomized a boy a few weeks ago. So it goes.
