I think this is a little more complicated than we assume. There actually is a core, agrarian Gujarat, consisting of the plains of the Mahi and Tapti which has much in common with the rest of agrarian India. The Kutchis, Saurashtrians and Memons who hail from the more arid regions, do form a continuum and are mostly involved in trade. The core Sindhis are of course based around the lower Indus plain and are super fedual. They still have bonded labour (see Haris of Sindh).

If you see the map of Gujarat election results, you will notice a stark difference in the voting patterns of the Saurashtra + Kutch vs fertile regions. The bulk of Sindhi speakers and bulk of Gujarati speakers share very little in terms of culture and history actually. Sindhi landlords consider themselves Rajputs, and have traditionally had poor relations with Delhi. Gujarati landlords are Patidars, and have had much better relations with Delhi.

In summary, core Sindhis have much more in common with Saraikis and Marwaris than they do with Gujaratis.

Not all.

However Gujaratis-Kutchis-Sindhis form a continuum.

Traditionally, in pre-Islamic India, cultural affinity was measured as a function of the distance from himavata (himalayas), i.e. orthogonal to the Indus measure seemed to be preferred by Zack.

Nope - most likely they could be Lohanas, who are Sindhi-descended Gujaratis..

Of course each neighbouring region in Greater India has profound connections to one another..

Well it’s interesting I was going to post on how I felt my Pakistani friends on Facebook were showing such jealousy about Rising India.

Pakistan positions itself as the Anti-India and when India
Is becoming a fairly glamorous super-Power; it’s hard to bear.

One could accuse me of the same thing but as I said I was a big Priyanka-Nick supporter.

The Ambani wedding is the first thing year that didn’t include an Indus ethnicity lol.. (kohli-Kapoor-singh-Chopra)..
