Launch of my theatre company

While I’m profoundly conservative I’ve been trying to find a space to channel my Social Justice Ghazi tendencies. I’m technically a co-founding trustee but my role is more administrative / organisational as opposed to creative.

I wanted to go more for “unheard voices” but as agreed it’s for anyone who “self-identifies” as a minority.

  1. Congratulations, Zach! All the best in this new venture, and kudos for being a part of something IRL that you believe in to counterbalance the punditry!

  2. Not exactly the thread, maybe Xerxes can have play on Bible: Esther 3-4 narrative (not).

    3 After these events, King Xerxes honored Haman son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, elevating him and giving him a seat of honor higher than that of all the other nobles. 2 All the royal officials at the king’s gate knelt down and paid honor to Haman, for the king had commanded this concerning him. But Mordecai would not kneel down or pay him honor.

    3 Then the royal officials at the king’s gate asked Mordecai, “Why do you disobey the king’s command?” 4 Day after day they spoke to him but he refused to comply. Therefore they told Haman about it to see whether Mordecai’s behavior would be tolerated, for he had told them he was a Jew.

    5 When Haman saw that Mordecai would not kneel down or pay him honor, he was enraged. 6 Yet having learned who Mordecai’s people were, he scorned the idea of killing only Mordecai. Instead Haman looked for a way to destroy all Mordecai’s people, the Jews, throughout the whole kingdom of Xerxes.

  3. Xerxes: . Old Persian: , Xšaya.āršan;

    Arasan I think means King in Tamil (Vijay, VijayVan or Karan can clarify)

    It is used in a quite few sinhala (not recalling Tamil) surnames.
    eg: Arasakulasooriya, Arasakularatne

    1. True ‘arasan’ in Old tamil is King ; this comes from Sanskrit rajan , through Prakrit. In Old Tamil , words can’t start with r , there should be ‘a’ in front of it. So Old Tamil words starting as ar certainly come from sanskrit/prakrit. e.g. arakkan from rAkshasa .

        1. Oh nice

          Tbh Djinns of Eidgah is a bit too anti-India but I can’t overrule the Creative Royists (Left-Liberal-Lutyens).

          They’ve scared off the Right-wingers from the Event and I’m convincing them to come back!

            Looking at the surname of the writer i would say i am not THAT surprised.

  5. Good luck Xerxie, you probably already know that ‘theatre’s bread is bitter’ (have rice or naan as a backup!). I have a conference at the end of the year in Oxf, may pop in for some autumn gala premiere unless is sold out.
