It is reverse passing. Till 1960s, many, not all , blacks would like to be considered white if their skin colour would allow it. Now the other way. May be lot of immigrants would also not mind ‘passing’ as blacks as it can be advantageous socially

There are people who definitely want to disband the police. But most are just virtue signaling (including the LA politician who has a private police detail but supports disbanding the police). Most of them believe they will disband the city police, win brownie points and just shift the burdening of policing to the county sheriff’s offices. Unfortunately for them some of the suburban counties will likely refuse the request for assistance. I think one Minnesota country said as much.

People in general irrespective of race have been brutalized by the law enforcement. Though blacks have been more on the receiving end. Did anybody come across any studies about police brutality that controls for income and locality between whites and blacks? I gotta also agree that the thugs in USA are FAR MORE dangerous than what we come across in India. In past 3-4 years about 3-4 students from Telugu states were either shot dead or injured by thugs who were all blacks. My mom’s colleague’s son was shot in the head lucky for him he escaped with some injuries to the eye socket.

How would controlling for income account for it? Shouldn’t you normalize by number of police interactions?
Also I’m not sure its an income thing. I think there was research showing poor Hispanic, White and Asian neighborhoods don’t have as much crime as poor black neighborhoods.
As for the last part of your comment -WTF? Even the Old world and India isn’t safe from this form of “diversity” and “cultural enrichment” I guess. Wonder how long before woke desis start campaigning for special privileges for African students and Siddis in India.

This whole “abolish the police” reminds me of the recent “abolish the EVM” movement in India, of course by liberals.
The ironic part is it will affect disproportionately the very same people its trying to help. So yeah i guess go ahead and abolish it, the people in power would very much like it, just like (In India) the powerful would rather like paper ballots than EVMs
It already happened in Baltimore (police stopped doing their job). Chicago just had one of its bloodiest days in history. Business are going to leave Minneapolis and other cities including grocery stores, pharmacies, banks etc The way its going white people will likely vote together like a minority at some point.

The attacks on the coppers in London were quite shocking. Whatever justification there may be for heavily armed attacking cops in riot gear in the US (I don’t care enough to take a side either way), the attacks in London were uncalled for and even your average politically reticent Brits have started to speak up. I hope the madness imported from the US doesn’t take root in other parts of the world.
It’ll also be interesting if the pushback against the statues and symbols of slavery extend to non-Anglo slave owning cultures in the past like the Ottomans, Arabs, Tatars, Portuguese and Spanish, etc. Is the Anglo world unique in it’s self-flagellation? Or is it just not reported because of the English bias in reporting?

I think that they may be over-compensating for the guilt of US attacks on the middle east post 9/11. But this alliance is an uneasy one, I don’t think it’s sustainable. Turkey does have a secular, globalist section of society, albeit one that is restricted to Istanbul. Folks like Orhan Pamuk for example, who even admitted to Turkish complicity in the Armenian genocide. But post Erdogan their space is shrinking. I’ve met many Turks in Europe who detest Erdogan, but they are basically exiles, they have no political space in Turkey anymore.
The biggest take-away from all of the rioting, looting, toppling of statues, setting up of ‘free zones’ in the US, etc. in the US is that (finally!) the era of US claims of moral standing on the world stage are over. Its quite rewarding to analyse the failure of the “social contract” in America to accomodate phenotypic differences. By this I do not mean either equality before law or equal rights to vote or any other jurispudence related metrics. They all exist in book and on the statute.
What I mean is Glaucon’s understanding of justice, as it is fit and as is found in nature. “….the state that emerges when the pain of injustice balances the benefit accruing to those inflicting it”. This can only happen when two or more groups occupy the same or adjacent branches of power. BLM essentially is trying to elevate the costs artificially to bring an equilibrium.
But what prevents the African American community from arriving at that natural state of justice? Is it economic (multi-generational deprivation)? Is it religious (adopting the religion of the slaver)? Is it the unmooring from core African ethos (cultural suicide)?
Brazil which has the largest African diaspora, even more than the US, has done a far better job of reaching that state of naturally enforced social contract. Does Catholicism have a better world view of that natural state of justice than Protestantism does? Many questions, no answers….
