1. Shahrukh isn’t a heatland star. He’s a star for the females.
2. Dal makhani isn’t an all india phenomenon. People don’t even consider it when ordering from apps.
3. The women writing the book is such a rarity (highly educated from a top US university) – her conditions & ambitions in life are far different from an ordinary average women in india (even urban woman).

The Indian social order is strong, and I conjecture that most men and women endorse marrying someone their parents select, and living with their parents.

The exception where the arranged marriage and family system doesnt work out makes good material for a TV show or even anecdotes in a book, but it wont change the norm. The norm has worked for 3000 years and it still works.

Haven’t read the book but I listened to a long interview of the author with Amit Varma: https://seenunseen.in/episodes/2022/1/10/episode-259-the-loneliness-of-the-indian-woman/. She sounded quite woke to me, but it was an interesting conversation, so I recommend it.
