Modi’s strong support for Israel – and refusal to condemn the Israel-U.S. strikes on Iran, a long-time friend of India’s – have “diminished India’s stature in the eyes of the world.”
Journalist Bharat Bhushan wrote in Deccan Herald that with the recent visit, Modi has put India “firmly in the U.S.-Israeli camp.”
That is not a space that India should be in if it is hoping to lead the Global South, especially in the context of Israel’s continuing war on Gaza and the latest Israel-U.S. military strikes on Iran.

Indian leli delusion. Are the “global south” countries to unite and wage war against the “global north” countries which have superior economies and firepowers?
Also a lot of these global south kangers get one thing wrong – global south countries don’t aspire to be members of the global south permanently but become rich and become part of the “global north”. Korea, Taiwan, GCC, some Latin American countries etc did it and now the rest of the Asian countries are on their way.
As soon as India hits 0.8+ HDI and 12k+ pci in the 2040s it is applying for OECD membership.
Refusal to condemn the assassination of the Supreme Leader is very problematic. If assassinating heads of government is a valid principle now then all bets are off.
Many Indians have commented on how “Hindu Hriday Samrat’s” visit to Israel just before these strikes on Iran undermines India’s credibility internationally.
It’s clear that in India’s eyes Israel can do no wrong.
Pakistan is trying to thread the needle. We condemned the US-Israeli strikes on Iran as well as the assassination of the Supreme Leader. Nawaz Sharif tweeted that the Supreme Leader was beloved by millions of Muslims. Pakistan has the second largest population of Shias in the world.
Yet, we have also condemned Iran’s attacks on “brotherly” Gulf countries.
