India won the T20WC yesterday becoming the first team to
- Win it thrice
- Win it at home
- Win it back to back
- Win 3 ICC trophies back to back to back
I always knew this day was coming.
India is a cricket mad country of 1.4 billion+. That means India should have dominated all of cricket. Issue was India was a dirt poor country with most of the population barely surviving.
After the economic reforms, as India kept getting richer bit by bit, the team also kept improving bit by bit.
So I always knew this inflection point would come eventually.
But it is still surreal to watch it live.
Countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan, SL, WI etc are no longer able to compete against India.
SENA maybe can give competition for a decade due to being rich countries.
But in 10-15 year’s time India will basically be what USA is to basketball.

very nice I actually have a lot of thoughts but I was thinking of doing a post on it.
do it.

Nothing is permanent. Even though I agree with your sentiment largely, a little humility would go a long way. Remember the crushing defeat to SA.
seems something has set off our spam filter today..
I do agree with BB’s framing though this is a structural shift of sorts.
England has the Premier League but Football/soccer is way too globalised that English is merely a “tall” footballing nation.
India is different that with the IPL, she is rapidly becoming THE Cricketing nation (with SENA & the GS tiers)..
Yup. France, Germany, Spain, Italy etc are peers of England. Nothing like that exists in cricket.
Naah. This is permanent unless the Chinese or Americans discover an interest in cricket, which they won’t.
As far as SA loss goes
the other significant thing is sub urbanisation of indian cricket ( and india in general). twenty thirty years ago it would have been impossible to see a singh, yadav, sharma, dube, siraj, in the indian squad. they are raw, hungry, brash, confident and aggressive.
sub-urbanisation?
released this from spam; sorry about that.
as in cricketers coming from non anglicized urban backgrounds.
until 00s the best indian cricketers were english speaking city dwellers.
oh yes the class divide – makes sense. the new recruits are going to be hungrier to prove themselves
India hasn’t won the ODI World Cup since 2011 and has regularly been embarrassed in test fixtures over the last couple of years.
It seems like Australia just doesn’t care too much about T20 cricket.
Still, it’s a start I suppose, to dominate even within the T20 format.
Easy to say they don’t care when they are not good.
T20 cricket will become the cricket and is what is going to be played in the Olympics.
Yes that will be excellent; golds for India. The Olympics are structurally rigged though; why isnβt Kabadi in it!
