Pakistan struck Afghanistan early Friday morning in response to Afghan attacks Thursday night on various locations in KPK.
According to Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, the Taliban have become “a proxy for India”. Asif said: “Our patience has run out. Now there is an open war”.
Those criticizing this operation should recognize that this is exactly the playbook India used in “Operation Sindoor”. War is obviously not a good outcome for anyone but national security trumps everything. There had been a Qatar and Turkey mediated ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan but the Taliban have clearly not clamped down on TTP.
There seems to have been a “rally around the flag” effect with even the PTI making social media posts in support of Pakistan’s armed forces.
DAWN’s live blog is here

don’t know much about it; but seems rather foolish of Afghanistan to be doing this
Yes, all they needed to do was control TTP and not allow Afghan territory to be used to attack Pakistan.
For some reason they refuse to do this. The Pakistan Government alleges that Afghanistan is working in cahoots with India to encircle Pakistan. India obviously denies this but this is exactly what one would expect a hostile state to do.
This is now a national security threat to Pakistan. Enough is Enough.
DGISPR will be giving a press conference at 4 PM to inform the nation of what’s going on.
“Where do Pakistan, Afghanistan go from here?”

It’s interesting that Pakistan’s Information Minister referred to the Taliban as “an illegitimate system of government”. This is kind of ironic given that Pakistan helped the Taliban to defeat the US.
Imran Khan was delighted when Ashraf Ghani (incidentally a friend of my parents from Washington DC) fled Kabul.
it’s quite funny that the threads are now partitioned.
It is.
But I will not be allowing anti-Pakistan comments on my threads. This is an absolute red line for me.
yes it seems this thread didn’t lift off; sometimes one can “over-moderate”
My policy is very clear. I have no tolerance for people who troll Pakistan and/or me personally.
Especially not at a time when Pakistan is at war.
Iran & Pakistan both it seems.
Pakistan it seems has timed this very well; no one is going to care about an AfPak skirmish in light of a major
Israel-Iran-American conflagration
Yes, just when you think things can’t get worse. We all knew the US was going to attack Iran sooner or later.
I don’t think Pakistan thought very deeply about the timing. It just became a national security emergency.
My feeling is that this operation is going to go on until the Taliban regime falls. Our information minister made some remarks last night that the Taliban regime is a perversion of Islam etc. It’s very ironic given that the Pakistani establishment essentially brought the Taliban back into power. But the Taliban turned out to be anti-Pakistan and an “Indian proxy”.
AfPak is a good idea
The US has expressed support for Pakistan’s right to defend itself against Taliban attacks.
President Trump has expressed his support for Pakistan.
Btw Kabir; if you notice RNJ & BB write fresh content (RNJ has one in drafts, and I’m noticing your Kabir music repost). I don’t mind reposting but it needs to be one para with a link and heavy context (2-3paras of fresh writing) as to why the repost is justified.
Let’s all be High-Signal now pls.
I don’t mind you deleting that post. It’s your blog after all.
But there was a context. The point was to emphasize the common culture that both India and Pakistan share. It was a scholarly essay.
Anyway, it’s not a hill I’m going to die on.
I didn’t delete it btw – it’s in drafts. U can rework it if you like
